Writing a blog

This time, I´m going to talk about my experience using blogs in the English class. Well, in the first instance to write a post in my blog was very difficult for me, because I didn´t have experience when writing and it was one of the first classes, then I didn´t understand the process of the creation of a Blog. I remember that in my first post I wrote about me, this activity was very interesting and difficult, because it is not easy talk about you, but it helped to know each other better. Then, In the next post, I had to speak about my expectations for a new semester and the use of the technology. This post was in part easier, because I was more prepared for it and the subject was of less complexity. The post number four was with a new theme, as was a free election topic. I chose sports, because I enjoy this topic, so that I could write faster. Finally, in the last posts I wrote faster, because my writing skills were improving and I can think the words faster. I think that you should include more free topics, because you do it in a better way. I wish I could speak about the opportunities given by English, in the working atmosphere and in the relations with foreign people.

My days in the gym

In the first day of April, I went to the gym with my friends Samuel and Juan Pablo. I had never been into the gym before and this affected me a lot the next day. At the beginning, I was happy because I was doing new activities and was improving my physical condition.

When I arrived to the gym, the professor told me that I had to fill a tab and put my index of physical activity in my life. After that, I started with the routine, first with the static bicycle, then the weight and finally crunches. In this stage, I had the biggest problems, because I was not get used to this.

I think it was one of my favorite days of this semester in the university because I met people and I improved my physical condition. In my opinion, it is very entertaining to go to the gym, but currently it is difficult to go there because we are in the test period.

Soda Stereo

Soda Stereo was born in 1982 as a heir band of new waves and influences as "The Police" and Television. It is considered the most important and influential Iberoamerican band. The band was made up of Gustavo Adrián Cerati Clark, Héctor "Zeta" Bosio and Charly Alberti. Gustavo Cerati played the guitar and leaded vocals, Zeta Bosio in bass and chorus and Charly Alberti in percussion At the beggining, Gustavo and Zeta established a friendship and began to play in differents bands, after they met Charly and created the band "Los Estereotipos" later called "Soda Stereo". The first album of Soda Stereo was called “Soda Stereo”. After, various albums came “Nada Personal”, “Signos”, “Doble Vida”, inter alia. In 1986, the conquest of Latin America came, they played in Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru and Chile. In Chile, Soda played in the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, reaching great success. In 1997, Soda officially announced their separation for internal problems and finished with a concert called “El último concierto”, a tour in different countries of Latin America. The reunification of Soda was in 2007, with a grand international tour. Unfortunatedly, Gustavo Cerati suffered a coma in 2010 that still affects him.

The FIFA World Cup

The FiFA World Cup is a competition of football where played 32 teams search to win. This tournament is developed every four years, between June and July and involves countries from all the word. This championship is one of the most important in the world, together with the Olympic Games. The World Cup began in 1930 in Uruguay being this country the first champion. The country with more cups is Brazil, with five. The current champions is Spain, who won in 2010. Chile together with 15 countries have hosted the FIFA World Cup and the next country to organize it is Brazil, where Chile is present. The World Cup is a media event, that brings a huge profit for the tourism in general and the so called “boom” of technology, where people buy TV´s and hire cable TV.

In the future FIFA World Cup will be performed in Russia in the year 2018 and after in Qatar in the year 2022, in this country there a controversy, because the temperatures are very high and this generated medical problems in the players.

Frederick Taylor

Frederick Winslow Taylor was a mechanical engineer that created the scientific organization of work. Taylor was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1856. He came from a well-off family and studied in France and Germany. Then, Frederick studied laws in Harvard. However, as his eyesight was deteriorating, Taylor chose a different path. Out of Harvard, he worked as a laborer in an iron and steel company and he was quickly promoted for his academic formation. In that moment, Taylor found his theory about scientific organization of work. Taylor analyzed and studied the work of his workers for separated. This theory helps with the costs and efficiency for the company. The importance of Frederick Taylor in my career is very important, because he created a new scientific method about the work organization that helps in the effectiveness of the companies and the public administration. Nowadays, the importance is that it improves the time and the productivity in the public and private area. I knew this person in class of admistrative theory, because he was an outstanding character in this area.

Concepción

Hello, in this post I am going to write about Concepción.

Concepción is a city of the south center of Chile. This city is very famous for the universities, such as: Universidad de Concepción, Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción and Universidad del Biobío. Besides, you can find many touristic places, like beaches, landscapes, rivers and lakes. Concepción has a good weather with a good temperature but it rains so much. In Concepción, you can find many points to enjoy and parties, where  the University neighborhood stands out because it gathers many people.

I like Concepción for many reasons but the most important are that there are many near places with different ecosystems and the people is so affectionate.

The things I don´t like about Concepción are the public transport, that is very slow. On the other side, the streets are in bad conditions and this doesn’t help the first point.

Finally, I think that Concepción is a land of many contrasts.

Loyalist Soldier

The name of this photo is “Loyalist Soldier”. This photo was taken by Robert Capa in the context of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. The photo was taken in Cerro Murillo, Spain and it represents the death of a Spanish soldier and the horror of war. This photo is in black and white products of the period of time as it was taken long time ago.

To take this photo the photographer had to be in the civil war and confront the war and bullets. I like this photo because it shows the real war and history of the world, also it shows that death is near anyone, that’s why we don’t have to not commit the same errors of the past. Finally, I like photography and to take photos of landscapes and buildings as it represents the old life and habits of ours ancestors.

Sports

I like sports because they develop your body and your soul, besides it promotes healthy life and recreation.

Personally, I like many sports, but my favorite one is football, then tennis and basketball. I practice football since I was five years old and I have been in different football clubs since then. I like football because you don´t need many equipment to play; besides it is a collective game with many people playing at the same time. I like that!

I practice tennis and basketball as a hobby with my friends. It is fun! However, it is difficult for me to practice it professionally.

I like others sports but I am not very good at them, these are swimming, surfing, and running. In these sports I have tried to make some progress and I think that with the time I will.

Finally, I think that all the people should make exercise because it helps to control stress and have a better quality of life.

Technology

Technology isn´t very important for me, but I am aware of the importance role that it has in my life. The most important technological device for me is the laptop. I got mine last year for the university, because my old laptop was stolen. In a laptop, you can do many things such as: work, play, study and listen to music. I use my laptop every day, I use it to check emails, study and work for the university. I like my laptop because it is very complete and difficult to get bored on it. I can´t imagine my life without a laptop. If I did not have one I would have to do a lot a sacrifice to look for information. What is more, I would have to move to different places to do what I need.

My expectations for this semester

In this second year of university I have six different subjects. My favourite one is Microeconomic, then Administrative law, Administrative Theory, English, Applied Statistics and Theory of science. This semester, I am taking football as an extracurricular activity. I am also in a committee in charge of the security and emergencies of the uni. Besides, In my free time I go to the gym and I run in the streets of Santiago. This semester, I want to have good marks and especially learn new things. In addition, I want to improve my English to visit other countries later. Finally, I would like to have more time to visit my family in Concepción.

Hi everyone, 

My full name is Hernán Jean Arias Catalán and I am 18 years old. I was born in Santiago but we moved to Concepción when I was a baby. Now, I am studying Public Administration at Universidad de Chile in Santiago, this is my second year. When I was a child I studied elementary school in Concepción at Santa Sabina School, then I studied High School in Concepción at Salesiano School. We are a four-member family: My father Hernán, my mother Marila and my older sister Stephanie who is 25 years old. My hobbies are playing football, playing the guitar, and studying English. I really enjoy playing others sport such as: tennis and basketaball. I also enyoy music and watching sports.
